COVID-19… HOW TO CLEAN THIS STUFF?

As I am writing this,  the definition of essential companies remains broad. Even so, as a janitorial company you are probably losing clients to suspension of business.  You are also getting a lot of customers that need you more than ever.

We have received requests from clients on how to deal with getting through this pandemic. Cleaning is arguably not only essential but critical during this time. And now you have customers that not only need their workplaces cleaned but also disinfected. Here are some key points you need to keep in mind.

Safety of your team.

Be honest with your team and let them know they need to be very careful how they clean. Support anyone who opts out not to work. Strongly encourage or even demand any employees with underlying conditions to sit this one out. Don’t make anyone who seems sick work.

Use PPE’s. Gloves are becoming hard to come by and masks are nearly impossible to find. Lean on your clients for help. If you can’t get PPE’s there are only 2 options: opt out or be very careful. We may be doing things in the weeks to come that we would never do otherwise. This will be a soul-searching choice, and these will be volunteer type missions.

Make sure you have protocols in place. Here is a simple breakdown from our February 10 insight.

Reinforce cross contamination issues.

Don’t use the same towel in the bathroom that you use on the front desk. Make sure to bag soiled towels immediately after use. Laying on the floor is unacceptable. And know what high frequency touch points are.

Here are 5 Tips to Prevent Cross Contamination

Know your chemicals

Know what dilution rates to use and know what dwell times are. Here is a list of coronaviruses killing chemicals.

Finally, if you want the CDC’s take on this you can check out what they say in 163 Pages of CDC content

Stay safe and encourage these and other best practices as we overcome and processed as Cleaning professionals.
